Multi-purpose public stru..By dpsd01028 for Smart-sign
Well, I support functionality. Aesthetics is crucial for a product, but I prefer more functional products. My thinking is about combining the stand-alone Led-lighted light or advertising column with something else. Nowadays, there is the non-smoking law at almost all EU countries. I am not a smoker and I surely do not encourage smoking, but as a designer I believe in the right to choose.
My Proposal
My proposal is about combining different activities and/or purposes in a single public structure.
Context
A very common use of this concept (here in Greece that iss) is combining bus stops with promotional displays. The displays are lightened up at night using lamps. The panels are mostly manufactured from aluminum and the theme of the promotional display can easily be changed. Recent years, I study different types of ephemeral structures and various public structures designed to encourage symbiosis among people.
Details
My proposal is concerning a public structure used by smokers in order to find a shelter for having a quick smoke. These kind of structures are very useful at winter days when the temperatures are too low for people to smoke outside of buildings and cafes, as well as for extremely hot summer days when the temperature reaches high degrees. Structures like these are encouraging social communication because the enhance the need to communicate with each other. This particular operation can be enhanced by the use of advertising panels incorporated with the public structure. This panel will have info about the weather or daily news. In addition, it will have advertising space for companies to be advertised at the streets. These info will be encourage social activity between people under the “shelter” and will be used as a great mean of public/ street advertising. This structure will have a incorporated light (LEDs) and could be also used for providing lighting at late hours, by absorbing sun light by making use of the integrated solar panels.
(At the picture you can see a design made by some students from my university! It is NOT my design, but I have something like this in mind. This is a bus-stop, though. I unfortunately am very late and I do not have the time to make some sketches of my proposal)
