Let's think to positive/negative aspect of a virtual console, compared with real consolles (xbox, ps,…),but not talking about games :
PLUS
-You can get it everywhere
-You can play with other people online easier than with a classic console
MINUS
-without having physical objects ( cd, console,) people can't give the right values to the games and the service (when you buy a program for computer they give you a box bigger than a cd/dvd, cause you spend a lot of money for it and you are happier if you go away with a big box, it's a psychological aspect)
-there isn't a direct device for playing, you have to go through the website: while for physical console the interaction is : PLAYER-CONSOLE-SCREEN-GAME, so that console has a primary role of mediator between player and the game, for virtual console the interaction is: PLAYER-SCREEN-INTERNET-VIRTUAL CONSOLE-GAME, so the primary mediator is internet, and is difficult for virtual console to became a reference point: for most players a game providing site is like anyother one, what is important is the game.
So important aspects that could make the difference are:
-Develop in the account area a community that player creates with the other players he likes to play online with (friends, people met playing the same game).
This thing could transform your service in a virtual dining room where friends meet for spend time together playing (this is what happens for classic console)
