Another suggestion that will raise questions and I might end up shot. But can't we do something about the whole bunch of bad designs over-running the site? I mean, there are plenty of sites like this one, where the level of designs is very high. The difference is sometimes striking. I think that the appeal of ReDesignMe will improve once you can get rid of all bad designs. Because it really is childsplay sometimes. I suggest the board of ReDesignMe evaluate the level of designs by each designer, if after a month they don't turn up good designs just ban them... I know this is harsh but that's the way the real world works. Doing business is the most important and if RDM aims for a certain level this is the "only" solution. Maybe some of them have good ideas, but a good idea has never made any money, it's the execution of the idea.

First of all, name the 'plenty of sites'. Second, Redesignme is not a design bureau. It is not about the quality of the end product. It's about a large and diverse crowd that can turn up a large variety of ideas. Especially that variety is what can boost innovation; often the companies themselves have the right knowledge in-house to turn good ideas in to profitable products. For more info, read "Innovation tournaments" by Terwiesch & Ulrich (2009).

Hmm, some things in your post that I immediately stumble over... - define 'bad design', and how to recognise good from bad design. - bad designers can learn with each contest they take part in. If you kick them out, they will certainly not learn anything here and stay bad designers. - You create an elite in this way, which may resemble the real world, but is - in my idea - complete on the contrary of what this site is for: to gather unique ideas from people who are not part of that elite. - to have a clearer division in, what you call 'good designers/bad designers', you may think of other ways than just banning them. There can be a more complex ranking system. Now, you can only rank people by the amount of RDM's they have earned. As in every contest, at most 10% of the participants receive RDM's, other 90% of the participants have none and all look equal. The ranking system could be expanded with a formula like the duration of your subscription on the site, how often you visit the site, how often you've won 2nd or 3rd place. Don't make people rank each other, as they'll always find a way to break it. And don't rank people on the number of designs they send in, because quality is better than quantity. So, overall, I don't agree with you. To me, this is a site for all designers, professional or not. Good designers will remain and stand out by the credits (may they be RDM's or a sort of ranking) they receive. Don't worry about good designers getting overrun by newbies; don't try to manage this 'Gaia'. It manages itself.

"Quality is better than quantity"? Think about it. This only make sense if you think of average numbers, which is not the case for redesignme challenges. There is no limit to the amount of redesigns. 3 good redesigns and 100 less useful ones is always better than just 3 good redesigns. The 'bad' redesigns can always inspire others.

I agree with Exonoice and Stylite on this one. The best ideas sometimes come from an unexpected source. I think you focus on designing logo's too much in your argument, and that is not what RedesignMe is only about.
