Slowlane Experiencefor SRE
the use of the Slowlane"
... Slowlane?
To connect the economic top locations in and around Eindhoven, The Netherlands (Also known as the Brainport region), we are working on a 32 km long "Slowlane", an extraordinary bicycle lane in a green, healthy environment. The route avoids traffic lights and other obstacles to enhance a continuous flow of traffic.
The Slowlane forms a new connection between locations as Philips, High Tech Campus, ASML, Technical University / Eindhoven and many others (see map attached for an impression).
Goal
Through these new developments -like the construction of the Slowlane- , we hope to attract even more high tech companies to settle in our region. Our goal with the Slowlane as such, is to shift to massive use of cars to more bicycle use.
Target audience
The Slowlane will be developed for:
- Primary: The business user, so the employees that work/live in this region. The Slowlane will be there for commuting as well as for travelling between work-related places (like for a near appointment).
- Secondary: The inhabitants of Eindhoven and tourists.
The Challenge
The infrastructure of the Slowlane will be there, but ...
- How to make the Slowlane an appealing experience?
- How to make cycling from, to and during work fun and useful?
- What could be happening during the ride what can't be experienced while driving a car?
- How to give the lane an own, innovative character?
Guidelines
- The business user will not be cycling all around the 32km lane, but will use only a part. Therefor the concept must provide an "experience" during the whole route.
- Key words for the Slowlane are: high tech, international and discovering.
- The Slowlane will be the cycling lane of the future, so think ahead! Long-term thinking will be extra appreciated.
- Think out of the box! We are looking for an original experience, not a solution for infrastructure.
- Keep in mind our target audiences; What would make the Slowlane interesting for them?
