Design a new door handle!for FSB

Message from FSB:
First of all thanks for your great interest in this challenge. We have received a lot of great designs with potential. Unfortunately we had to choose five nominees.

At FSB, several specialists judged all designs. From a total of nearly sixty entries, five finalists were eventually chosen. The experts judged all the entries at originality in design, the design of the handle itself and the arguments behind the design. From all entries the following designs are nominated:

Lilly by Archcappuccio (Redesign 44)
Squeeze Concept by Exonoice (Redesign 48)
Fold by rbb (Redesign 54)

The nominated designs still have a chance to win the 10.000 RDM´s for the best entry. Besides that, all nominees receive an invitation for a visit to the FSB plant in Germany and all designs will be developed in a rapid prototype model, which will bee seen on the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. This event will be held from 23 till 31 October. The winner of the FSB design Challenge will eventually be presented during this event.

What we our looking for
We are looking for new door handle designs.

Requirements
The entries will be judged on three important conditions, namely design, ergonomics and materials. Thus it is important that the designed handle radiate individuality, but also contains a modern character. The type of material that should be used is aluminum.
The design principle of the FSB products is based on knowledge that door handles are consumer goods and design tells something about the personality of the owner. Therefore the designed door handle needs to radiate a timeless modernity.

Door handles of FSB are also characterized by high quality, manifested in the design and ergonomic quality. The ergonomic principle of each of the more than hundred door handles from the FSB program are developed using the four commandments of FSB: the use of the thumb, forefinger, the palm and grabbing volume. In order to get a good assessment, the jury requires a first sketch, a brief explanation about the creation of the design, a short description and photograph of the exhibitor and a final design with different views and measures.

Dutch Design Week
From all the entries there will be a few designs nominated in September. The nominations will be submitted to a jury that is composed of several specialist in the field of architecture and design. The jury consist of the following members: Fransesco Veenstra (Architect, Mecanoo Architecten), Harmut Weise (Designer, FSB), Marit Overbeek (Editor Interior, De Architect) and Marijn van der Poll (Curator Dutch Design Week and Designer).

The nominated designs will be developed in a rapid prototype model, which will be seen on the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. This event will be held from 23 till 31 October and is considered as the largest design event in The Netherlands. Around 1500 designers from The Netherlands and abroad present their work in the field of industrial design, concept design, graphic design, textiles and fashion, spatial design, food design and other design trends.

The winner of the FSB design Challenge will be presented during the Dutch Design Week.

FSB has also linked a amount of 10.000 RDMs for the best entry and all nominees receive an invitation for a visit to the FSB’s plant in Germany.
