Exploring possibilities for rubber tilesfor Rubet B.V. - Securiton
About Securiton Rubber Tiles
Rubet B.V. is the designer of the special Securiton rubber tiles. These tiles are safe, durable and environmental friendly. They are currently in use as (1) shock absorbing surface in playgrounds for kids to prevent them from injuries and (2) as podotactile guiding routes for visually impaired people to increase their mobility.
The tiles are made out of concrete with a thick rubber layer on top. This rubber layer has air chambers, giving the tile its shock absorbing capacity. For visually impaired people, the tile makes a different sound when being struck with the white cane that visually impaired people use, making these tiles very well suitable for guiding routes.
The tiles can be produced without the shock absorbing air chambers (only rubber on concrete) as well.
The Challenge
Knowing that these tiles are able to absorb shocks, what other applications for the Securiton rubber tiles can you come up with?
These have to be other applications than the ones currently in use.
You could think of possibilities around mobility and injury prevention, but other ideas are also welcome!
Additional Info:
- The surface of the rubber tile can be anything you want to be: Flat, with grooves, with bumps, etc.
- Currently, they are square 30x30x6 cm.This is not a must, but practical since this is standard measure in NL.
- Other measures or surfaces would require new mould , e.g. additional investments.
- Be creative!
